Research Hub

Founded in April 1986, the Center for African Area Studies (CAAS) at Kyoto University emphasizes (1) long-term fieldwork in Africa, (2) an interdisciplinary research style that integrates the humanities and social and natural sciences, (3) education and research with a wholistic perspective of the past, present and future, and (4) a social contribution approach based on connection with local communities. We are committed to building a solid research base for collaboration and dissemination with researchers in Africa and around the world, and for academic exchange with universities and research institutions.
