Program

*Abstract The Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) unilaterally initiated conflict in northern Ethiopia in November 2020. However, partly because of the spread of COVID-19, most people who have been engaged in research and aid projects in Ethiopia have been unable to travel and have thus received information about this conflict indirectly. In this round table talk, Shigeta Masayoshi (The Center for African Area Studies, Kyoto University) will interview Dr. Jan Abbink (African Studies Center, Leiden University) a guest speaker who has been conducting research in Ethiopia for many years, to discuss the background to the conflict’s outbreak and what has happened since. Young researchers will join the latter part of the round table talk to discuss the future of fieldwork in Ethiopia.
