Summary

The aim of the workshop is to clarify the backgrounds and factors of the development or underdevelopment of indigenous manufacturing in Sub-Saharan African countries. Through empirical surveys and qualitative analyses of firms and actors including laborers, our researches have examined the details of development processes, relationships among members within firm organizations, progresses in division of labor among various actors, technological changes and their influence on supply chains and intra-firm organizations and other important factors in African manufacturing firms. Then, we will discuss possibilities and bottlenecks of African industrialization from within.
