Field Stations

The Africa Center operates seven field stations across the African continent (in Namibia, Zambia, Tanzania, Kenya, Cameroon, Ethiopia, and Niger) as bases for field research, in cooperation with the Graduate School for Asian and African Area Studies.

The field stations were established by the 21 COE Program "Aiming for COE of Integrated Area Studies" (2002-2006), and are now managed by the Global COE Program "In Search of Sustainable Humanosphere in Asia and Africa."

The field stations are used to promote research and education based on fieldwork, offer seminars and workshops, and form coalitions with local research institutions.
